Underwater inspections for bridge extension in Brazil
Imtraff is responsible for conducting the studies and design for the expansion of the Antonio José Sant’ Anna Lobo Neto Bridge, located in the historic center of Paranaguá in the state of Parana. The place is one of the main accesses connecting the city of Paranaguá to Ilha dos Valadares, with an extension of 240 meters. With the population’s significant increase, which today is approximately 25 thousand inhabitants, a new expansion was necessary to meet the higher demand of people flow and emergency vehicles.
Underwater Inspection
The project will contemplate the infrastructure, mesostructure and superstructure is already being carried out with the underwater inspections of the infrastructure elements, in order to assess the conservation conditions of the pillars that are submerged up to the traffic lane.
The technical and specialized procedures must comprise, among others, the collection of data necessary to formulate diagnosis and prognosis of the structure, aiming maintain or re-establish structural safety requirements, functionality, durability and feasibility for expansion.
This is the first part of the study, which aims to propose the necessary improvements to the structures and project the expansion of the bridge, improving the mobility conditions of the region.
